Last Friday, Aztec Adventure was right in the thick of it at the epic launch of Visit Worcestershire and Museums Worcestershire's Civil War 375 - held at The Commandery in Worcester. And what a launch it was.
375 Years in the Making
2026 marks 375 years since the Battle of Worcester - the decisive clash that ended the English Civil War on 3rd September 1651. It's one of the most significant moments in English history, and this year Worcestershire is giving it the celebration it deserves. We're talking events, exhibitions, living history, and family-friendly adventures right across the county all year long.
But if you don't know the full story, let us fill you in.
The Battle of Worcester was the last and largest land battle of the Civil Wars. King Charles II and a Royalist army of around 12,000 faced Oliver Cromwell's Parliamentarian forces of 28,000 in and around the city. By nightfall, the Royalists were defeated, thousands were dead or captured, and Charles II was fleeing for his life. What happened in Worcester that day didn't just decide the fate of a King - it helped reshape the constitutional relationship between the Crown and Parliament, and changed the future of the nation. Worcestershire became central to the struggle for liberty and representative democracy. That's a pretty big deal for our county.
We Were There
The launch brought together partners, historians, media and supporters all fired up about making this anniversary year truly special. We got to witness pike drills and cannon demonstrations up close.
We're In!
Here's the part we've been bursting to share. Aztec Adventure has been named as one of only 11 grant recipients chosen to be part of this landmark anniversary celebration. Out of organisations right across the county, we were selected - and we couldn't be more proud to play our part in bringing this incredible chapter of English history to life.
What Does That Mean for You?
It means we've got some exciting things in the pipeline. We can't reveal everything just yet - but trust us, it's going to be worth the wait.
